Voices of Uganda was conceived and inspired by the work of other photographers who have in the past used a similar style to communicate social change issues. I had initially planned for a non violence project in the forth coming Uganda general and presidential elections, but other Ugandan partners jumped onto the good wagon and participated in helping shape the concept to make it work to encompass a wide ranging issues that Ugandans face. From the onset, this was always gonna be a “citizens talking to citizens” platform, as that makes a lot of sense to the speaker and their audience.
What This Is About: This is about you; it is about me, and it is about every Ugandan. This is about (you) the people of Uganda speaking to other peoples of Uganda, of all races, color and creed. It is about (us) the citizens seeking honorable leadership, service and taxation with representation. It is about deepening democracy.
What This Is Not About: This aint about me; it aint about you either! It aint about a political party, a local council chief, a member of parliament or a presidential candidate. This is about Uganda. It is about each one of us as individuals doing their best to educate, to motivate, to influence, to invigorate democratic practice and to determine the future of our beloved country, Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.
